postpartum

The postpartum period can be one of the hardest to recover from – lack of sleep, recovering from labour and childbirth, and/or adjusting to life as a family with a newborn. There can be a lot to think about, but your recovery shouldn’t be left in the too hard basket to manage later. Osteopaths can play a special role in recovering post childbirth and can assist your recovery returning to the things you enjoy.

Things most addressed areas during the postpartum period include return to exercise assessments, pelvic floor rehabilitation, abdominal scar treatment, abdominal separation (DRAM) rehabilitation, dequevans tenosynovitis, mastitis, and neck/shoulder pain related to feeding and nursing.

Hands on treatment and assessment in conjunction with lifestyle modification including using aids for feeding, specific stretches, and a tailored return to exercise/rehabilitation program for pelvic floor or DRAM can be an incredibly effective way to get you connecting with your body post-partum.

It is generally advised to attend treatment at a minimum 6 weeks after having your baby, however this may be longer or shorter depending on specific circumstances (area of discomfort, scar healing and other complications). If you are unsure when you can return for treatment please reach out and we can discuss appropriate timing
